Useful information

Authorship examination documents for court

Preparing questions and materials, and agreeing the type of deliverable.

Types of deliverable

  • Specialist opinion: the result of an agreed contractual examination.
  • Expert report review: an assessment of the report supplied, within the scope defined by the brief.
  • List of questions: proposals for refining the expert's brief.
  • Consultation: preliminary consideration of the task and necessary materials.
  • Forensic expert report: the result of an examination appointed under the prescribed procedural rules.

What needs to be agreed

  • The object and questions, and whether the texts and samples are sufficient.
  • The origin of the materials and the grounds for submitting them.
  • The type of deliverable and its intended use.
  • Participation of relevant specialists in a combined task.
  • The recipient and their authority, timeframes and document format.

Delivery of the result

A payer does not automatically become the recipient of the deliverable. Paper and electronic delivery arrangements are agreed. Admission of documents and assessment of evidence are matters for the relevant authority. A review does not itself replace a repeat examination.
